Best Italian Notes 2013
Everyone’s allowed a little self-indulgence towards the end of the year, and I like to study Google Analytics and find the best Italian Notes in the past year according to the readers.
So here is the annual top10 of your favourites. And again your interests are focused on the primary tourist destinations.
1. Souvenirs from Florence
The most popular new blog post from October 2012 to end September 2013 was my collection of souvenirs from Florence. Apparently I’m not the only one searching for original gifts and souvenirs to keep the memory of Tuscany alive.
2. Gondola Facts
A fact collection on the Venetian gondola comes in second. Apparently we are many who have been wondering why gondoliers of Veneto row only on the right side of the boat.
3. Facts about St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome
More facts come in third. This time from Lazio on St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
4. Things to do in Savona
Savona in Liguria is one of the ordinary Italian cities that don’t get half the attention it deserves. So seeing 5 things to do in Savona on this chart is a very pleasant surprise.
5. Must See Places on the Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi coast in Campania is in itself a must see for many travelers, and there are other unmissable sights among the breathtaking scenery.
6. Foods in Sicily
Foods in Sicily presents the delicacies you must try on the island, where everything from ice cream to street food is served with a passion that reflects the land, the sea, and the sun as well as all the invaders that have occupied the island over the past two millennia.
7. Italian Fascist Architecture
Unlike other sights Italian fascist architecture cannot be praised for its aesthetic qualities. But it is still a very conspicuous part of everyday life in most Italian cities.
8. Town with Two Waterfalls
Isola del Liri is an inland island in Lazio about 100 km south of Rome. And the only Italian town with two waterfalls within the old city limits.
9. Graffiti in Italy
Some examples of graffiti in Italy, which seems to have gone from personal to political in order to reflect the current economic crisis.
10. The Gates of Paradise in Florence
The top10 ends where in started in Florence, Tuscany. But this time in front of the newly polished Paradise Gates, where you can see the sculptor Ghiberti staring back at you across the centuries.

I love the street art collection. Your 2013 looked wonderful.
Thank you. It’s amazing how much you can experience even when you restrict your travelling to just one country.
Looks like you had a great year! I loved all of the photos. My favorite one was of Isola del Liri. Thank you for sharing! Happy New Year!
We like the odd, small, off-beat places too:
I’m surprised that some of your food posts didn’t make it into the top as you have some really unique recipes. You’ve had a few of your facts post that I’ve found super interesting.
Wishing you all the best in 2014.
Thank you Leigh, and a happy New Year to you too. The food posts have their own chart, which is why you won’t see them in this list;)
Loved the two waterfalls – and Savona – and all of them, really. Looking forward to lots more Italy in 2014 :)
Thank you. I’m so glad that you care to follow me around:)
Happy Newyear! I’m going to be browsing here a bit more as, by the looks of it, I’ll be visiting Italy three times this year, so better do some preparing! :)
Thanks. Hope you’ll enjoy it.
Great round up. I especially love your posts about off-the-beaten path places I’ve never heard about. But like Leigh, I’m surprised that some of your food posts didn’t make the list. I still make the pasta with lemon sauce recipe that you posted a couple of years ago.
Glad to hear you still like the lemon dressing, Laurel. You might try the walnut sauce as well, which is equally simple to make. It appears on my list of the best food notes in 2013:)
