1. Cassata Siciliana
The most popular recipe on Italian Notes in 2013 was Cassata Siciliana. An opulent treat filled with ricotta cream and candied fruits and covered in marzipan.
3. Coffee Mousse
With a basis of ricotta and mascarpone this coffee mousse recipe is one of the easiest desserts anyone can dream of making. And an instant hit with all coffee lovers.
4. Walnut sauce for pasta
Easy and great taste has also made the walnut sauce for pasta popular. This is really a dish that can be prepared in less than 15 minutes.
5. Grissini breadsticks
Classic grissini breadsticks can be bought for next to nothing in most supermarkets, but it is much more fun to make them yourself.
7. Fennel flan
In Italian restaurants savoury flans are immensely popular, and when you try this fennel flan you’ll understand why.
8. Mushroom pasta sauce
You cannot visit Tuscany in the fall without trying the local porcini mushrooms. For instance in a creamy mushroom pasta sauce
9. Focaccia with olives and onions
Our local Puglian bakery sells slices of freshly made focaccia with olives and onions. And it is hard to imagine a better midday “sandwich”.
10. Sausages with tomato sauce
Italian sausages with tomato sauce are basically an elegant and low-fat variation over the beloved hotdog with ketchup theme.

What a ride! I was drawn in, no I couldn’t turn away. Then I was thrilled, followed by instantaneous hunger, topped off with depression because I can’t have any of these, and my cereal is getting soggy.
*laugh* *pout*
You really should try to upgrade your cooking. Such emotional response to reading about food can’t be entirely healthy:)
You had me at Italian Food, Mette! Could I have a sample of each please? I clicked over and snagged the walnut sauce, mushroom sauce and Focaccia recipes…thank you! I can’t wait to try them. The sauces will be asap with a bunch of pasta I have waiting on the shelf. Now I’m looking at the apple nearby for my breakfast and it looks pathetically depressing :)
Recently I heard that English doctors had proved the old axiom about an apple a day scientifically, so there is absolutely no reason to get depressed over breakfast.
The bonet looks really good to me. I would really loooove to try it.
Yes, chocolate puddings have gone sadly out of vogue. They deserve a revival.
Looks like some amazing dishes. I’ve never had a “savory” flan before…I’d like to try that!
Give it a try. It’s quite simple to make:)
Mmm, I’m thinking walnut sauce pasta and coffee mousse. Both look super yummy. And easy is definitely a bonus.
Walnut sauce is one of my favourites too. Although it is hard to convince the family that they should go without meat.
These all look delicious and a post I shouldn’t have read right before bedtime :) Now, I’m hungry. I would love to try to make that walnut sauce and coffee mousse recipe too. Great recipes, Mette. Happy New Year to you and your family!
Thank you very much Mary. And all the best to you and yours for the New Year as well.
You’ve inspired me to try some new recipes. These all look so tasty!
Great. You won’t be disappointed:)
All of these look so delicious! The walnut sauce and the bonet is something I would love to try. Thank you for sharing this! Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year to you too. Walnut sauce and bonet are also some of my personal favourites. In fact I made them again yesterday, and they are still good.
YUM!! I grew up in an Italian household, but my mom never loved cooking so never really made us kids learn. And now she has pretty much quit altogether — so of course I’ve become interested. I want to make that creamy mushroom pasta stat!
What a missed opportunity. Still, Italian cooking is not too difficult to pick up, even if you have not learned it as a child.
