Bolzano and the magic mirrors
I love Italian traffic mirrors as a free and easy way of seeing a place from a different perspective. Here is my view of Bolzano and the magic mirrors.
The mirrors in Bolzano reflect an orderly city that has grown rather fat around the stomach compared with more most Italian cities further south. Here near the Austrian border residential houses have a fresh coat of paint. The wooden window shutters have an ingeninous multiple functionality that provide a certain vision without too much insight. Traffic is sparse and regulated with room for bikes and pedestrians. Refuse gets contained and collected within the appropriate bins. The green mountains in the background promise plenty of recreational spaces. And mothers are walking around with children by the hand, while the elderly speed forward with determined steps.
Bolzano is salami with saurkraut – in an unusual but very lovable mashup.
And I for one can’t wait for another chance to see what’s behind the looking glass.
Super cool idea, seeing a town through traffic mirrors. Will definitely keep an eye out for these now.
I always have a great time collecting things. And digital photographs with a specific theme are so much easier to lug around than snow domes or geological samples.
I love this idea! I’ve never heard of Bolzano, but Italy is one of those countries I’d love to explore every inch of.
That’s what I’ve made my travel mission:) And some places, like Bolzano deserved to be visited again and again.
Great idea! What a unique way to see the city!
Thank you Laurel. Appreciate the feedback.
Nice idea! I love those mirrors too and makes me feel on a boat.
How interesting. I suppose the mirrors could resemble portlights.
I love Bolzano! What an interesting way to get a different perspective on such an amazing town!
Thank you. It’s so nice to hear that others share my passion.
What a neat idea and a different perspective to the city. Thanks! I’ll be paying attention to these while traveling from now on.
Nothing better than sharing inspiration, Mary. These mirrors are everywhere in Italy, where the roads are too curly and narrow to ensure a proper view.
I tried to capture photos in my rear view mirror when driving to Jasper but got nothing like the great photos you got. It’s a fun way to see the world.
BTW – your Taormino post in my RSS feed said it didn’t exist. Weird.
Rear view mirror photography is a difficult art form to master. These road mirrors in Bolzano are a lot easier, as you are not trying to capture a moving target.
And thanks for the BTW. I have a really bad habit of changing my URLs without making the proper redirections. I’m sure that’s the reason.
love the pictures. i am driving to Bolzano from Florence on my honeymoon in a few weeks before we tackle other Euro cities. We can’t wait.
You have a lot to look forward to – in many different ways:) Congratulations.
