Take a look around Jaufenpass – Passo Giovo in South Tyrol
Take a look around Jaufenpass
aka Passo Giovo in South Tyrol
Fed up with the heavy traffic on the motorways, we decided to take a look around Jaufenpass aka Passo Giovo in South Tyrol. A beautiful outdoor playground, if you have the time and energy to enjoy it.
Passo Giovo/Jaufenpass is a mountain pass connecting Merano and Vipiteno/Sterzing in south Tyrol. Or Alto Adige, as the Italian population of the area has it. The landscape of south Tyrol along Austrian-Italian border is breathtakingly beautiful. And it’s a great place for an active holiday at all times of the year. With good skiing in winter and great hikes in summer.
The winding pass road is 39 km long and runs along the Brenner motorway. Still, it is not exactly a shortcut. Instead it gives you a chance take a deep breath of Alpine air. And enjoy the spectacular mountain views.

What spectacular photos. Thanks for a wonderful start to a Monday!
Coming from a land with no mountains, I’m bewitched by Alpine landscapes
So beautiful!! I can’t imagine those sweeping views.
So beautiful. I love the mountains and soaking up beautiful scenery like that. Plus I love the outdoors.
Some day I’ll get there and many other places I want to visit.
I know what you mean, Curt. I’m working on my travel wish list continuously.
Beautiful, I imagine there must be some wonderful hiking trails there as well?
There are indeed – and it is not more than a couple of hours drive from Munich.
I think it’s fascinating to think about Ötzi walking around these gorgeous mountains.
Yeah, it must have been the Iceman’s neck of the woods some 5 300 years ago.
